Building a home with Habitat for Humanity leaves a lasting impression.
Just ask homeowner Crystal Spence:
We have met so many people from different walks of life just
sharing their gifts:
- We've met moms, sisters and daughters who came out and organized
a potluck to have lunches ready.
- We've met college kids who came out to lend a hand despite
their focus on studies
- We've met bankers whose companies financially support the
build — they go there on a weekend and get dirty.
- Even elementary school children have helped, raising money
through a fund-raiser at their school.
The most important thing I can say, if you're interested in helping
out, is to consult your heart, because a gift from the heart,
whether big or small, always keeps giving. Never think what you
could share would be too small. It's the littlest things that
make the biggest impressions.
Our hearts have been really touched just by the outpouring of
love. And like I said before, we have met so many different types
of folks who just want to give.
I may not remember everyone's name, but I will remember your
face—and your heart—for a long time to come. Thank
you for sharing a part of yourself.
When someone would leave the church I attended when I lived overseas,
we would always sing a song. The lyrics say:
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.

Crystal, her husband Darek, and their four children — Erica,
6; Jacob, 4; Zachery, 2; and Abigail, 7 months — are now
in their Habitat home. They were cramped into a small two-bedroom
apartment; Crystal and Darek have slept in the living room to
give the kids more space. Their new home gives them a fresh start
as a family
