Many low-income families in El Salvador live in structures made of adobe, interwoven cane and mud, tin sheets, cardboard, wood and plastic. To make matters worse, these houses are in areas that do not meet minimum security, hygiene and basic sanitation requirements. For many of these families, owning decent land and having a house is a dream since they cannot apply for loans through the banking system.
Working with Habitat for Humanity El Salvador, the Thrivent Builds Worldwide Community pilot represents an opportunity for making these families’ dreams come true. Partner families will work with volunteers to build decent, earthquake-resistant homes and additional projects, chosen by the community, to improve their quality of life and create a neighborhood where kids will be safe playing outside.
On behalf of its members, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has committed $50,000 to Habitat for Humanity El Salvador during the pilot stage to build homes in Santa Ana, El Salvador, and contribute to the affiliate's ability to serve more families.
The potential to make significant change in an El Salvador community is possible because of the power of Thrivent Financial membership. Imagine the impact you and other Thrivent Financial members can make!
