Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast announces a new partnership!
A new season brings a bit of change to Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the affiliate that hosts the Thrivent Builds Worldwide Gulf Coast Community. HFHMGC has entered into a partnership with Camp Victor Ministries, a local volunteer camp located in Ocean Springs that has been in operation since November 2005 and has housed 15,000 volunteers. While it is sad to leave the Salvation Army’s Yankie Stadium as it has been the affiliate’s “home” for volunteers for the past two years, we are eager to create new memories at Camp Victor. Teams with the Thrivent Builds Worldwide Gulf Coast Community will begin using Camp Victor during the week of November 3.
As Pascagoula homes are carpeted, Long Beach prepares for houses!
Work is moving right along in Pascagoula, thanks to the help of the seven teams here in October with volunteers from New York, New Jersey, Washington, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Florida, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Illinois, South Carolina and North Carolina. The four homes on Polk Avenue were painted and trimmed this month and all have received carpeting. The Polk Avenue yards are expected to be graded and landscaped soon, while preserving the beautiful trees on the properties. As for the homes on Convent Avenue and School Avenue, they have been dried in, roofed, sided and are currently having sheetrock installed in them. Over on Tucker Avenue, the house at 1115 Tucker Ave. has already been sheet rocked and interior trim work is underway.
Moving Westward, The Trace Lane project in Long Beach is prepping for construction to begin in early November. Curb is in the process of being formed and poured throughout much of the development. The house footings have been set and chain walls are being constructed for eight foundations to be poured this week. The affiliate expects more permitting approval from the City of Long Beach and additional foundations to be poured in the weeks to come.
The Trace property will be the site of the 2008 Thrivent Builds Block Party, which will be held at the end of a blitz build week on December 5, 2008. The event will celebrate the construction of the 28 homes in Long Beach, as well as the other 12 Thrivent-sponsored house constructed with the affiliate in 2008. The celebration will continue with the announcement of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans’ 2009 commitment to Habitat to Humanity affiliates, which includes an additional 28 homes along the Gulf Coast.

Through the Thrivent Builds Worldwide Gulf Coast Community program, Thrivent Financial members are helping 40 families to rebuild their homes - and their lives - in the Missisippi Gulf Coast. But the need is still great:
- Only 15% of the homes along the Gulf Coast destroyed by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina have been rebuilt.
- Thousands of families are still living in unsafe temporary housing.
- More than 100 families are in the pipeline, waiting for homes with Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
YOU can make a difference and help even more families today. Donate online to Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and your dollars will help build even more homes in the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
